Hi Friends!
I have been reading my friend's ebook online and I would like to help him promote it.
Kindly check his post in WATTPAD :
Here is the Synopsys:
The year is 64 A.D (After Decay). People have finally rebuilt a civilization under the protection of the 10 Walled Cities of the New World, established in an island once known as Palawan. Cady, a Bravo City girl, has enrolled into the School of Delta, the first school that was formed to enhance and unify all the Walled Cities together, as a high school freshman. During her trip to the school, she meets up with her childhood friend, Hayden, and reestablishes their friendship while having mixed emotions about their feelings. She also meets a mysterious guy that seems to follow her around. From her journey she would experience life with love, peer presure from her popular friends and a lot more of high school drama while a mysterious outbreak that turns people into a decay threatens the lives of some students at school. Would Cady be next or would she survive a school to DIE for?
and there is the First Chapter:
Chapter
one: From the Walled City of Bravo to the Walled City of Delta
A
loud repeated ring from Cady's phone wakes her up from her sleep. She
checks the time on her phone, it's 5:30 am. She manages to see the
time with her squinted newly awakened eyes. She mumbles a weak “ugh”
and says to herself “15
more minutes”, after all she did have a hard time sleeping
due to the excitement going through her mind that the next morning
would be her first day of school.
Within
5 minutes of her supposed 15 minute allowance to get up, she is
awakened with a gentle kiss on the forehead from her mom.“Wake
up Sweety, I don't want you to be in a rush later, I prepared you
breakfast.”, her mom tells her.
Cady's
eyes open, then says “Good morning
Mom.”, and gives her mom a warm hug afterwards. Her mom
responds with the same gesture. After their morning ritual of hugs
and kisses on the cheek, Cady's mom leaves the room.
Cady
then gets up from her bed, does a quick version of morning ritual,
from taking a warm shower, brushing her pearly white teeth,
retouching her cherry blossom color nails, putting a neutral looking
makeup on her youthful face, placing her grape scented lip balm
against her soft lips, combing her beautiful light brown hair, then
tying it in a ponytail with her purple rubber band, she then removes
her purple towel from her chest, she puts on her dirt white stocking,
puts on her powder blue skirt, her bra and finally her blue turtle
neck shirt. She then goes out of her room. At the hallway she reaches
her blue sneakers, sits on a red sofa, with a slight struggle of
fitting both shoes on her feet. “There all done, that was quick.”
she tells herself as she gets her black backpack.
She
opens the doorway of her house. The bright morning sun beams kindly
at her, she squints a little from the ray of light then she sees the
community. A suburban environment filled with other small houses. She
walks to the community kitchen at the center of all the houses. She
sees many families there. From the expression of the kids teary eyed
parents, Cady is sure that the kids are all freshmen. She then looks
at the far side of the community kitchen. She sees her mom wearing
her usual lab suit clothes waving at Cady to approach her. Cady
approaches the table with false confidence trying to pretend she is
not a freshman. She sits beside her mom and across from her dad.
“Finally you are up Sweetheart.” he tells her, Cady looks at him
and replies “Good morning Dad”. He then slides a metal tray in
front of her. Cady looks at it, it is the usual morning breakfast,
eggs and bacon. Cady reaches for her fork and eats her food with her
left hand.
“So
sweetheart, this is your first day of school, I want you to be good
and be aware of everything that is going around, it's always best to
be safe.” her mom tells her.
As
she continues to talk, Cady notices that her mother is going to burst
into tears, Cady thinks to herself “Oh great! My mom is going to
make it obvious that I'm a freshman.”, with a quick reaction,
Cady whispers “Mom please. Stop that.”. Cady's mom couldn't help
it. She bursts into tears and gives Cady a hug. Cady looks at her Dad
making an expression on her face to him, as if she was asking him to
help her.
“Nathalie
thats enough.” says her Dad.
Cady's
Mom lets go of her, looks at her black purse and reaches for a tissue
to wipe her eyes. “Now
Cady, your mother and I are just concerned for you. This is only the
third year of this High School Program... we are just now slowly
rebuilding our human community after the decays.” he tells
her.
“Yes,
I know that Dad, please don't give me the same speech you said
yesterday.” she responds.
“You're
right! but just on the safe side, you're going to school with Renee
and Hayden” he informs Cady.
Cady
is shocked by the news, she thought she would be going to school
alone. It has been a long time since she talked to her childhood
friends. Renee was one year older than Cady, they were bestfriends
before Renee got accepted into the school of Delta, after only a few
weeks of high school the girls grew apart. Renee started hanging out
with her classmates and left Cady alone. Hayden on the other hand was
a great guy, but being 3rd year, and the first batch of
the High School Program, he had more responsibilities to take and
left the group of three.
“Cady,
Cady!” her mom snaps her fingers in front of Cady's face.
“Sorry
Mom, I... was thinking of something.” Cady tells her.
“I
packed you lunch... Oh! which reminds me to pack your sleeping pills
as well, please take these pills every night so you can sleep.” her
mom replies.
“Ok,
ok mom.” Cady answers.
She
was still talking to her mom, when her dad approaches “Here
Cady, just to be safe.” her dad hands her a big long
heavy wrench. “For protection.” he tells her.
Cady
looks at both parents and says her goodbye. She didn't want her
embarrassment of being an obvious freshman to prolong by staying with
them too long.
As
Cady leaves the community kitchen, she puts her sleeping pills and
the wrench in her backpack, then goes to her neighbors house, as she
approaches, she instantly sees Renee's platinum blonde hair from the
distance.
“She
wears a pink dress with matching pink stilettos, not the type of
clothes you wear during a zombie apocalypse or high school, but who
knows what people wear nowadays” she tells herself.
Cady's
only reference about High School was from watching an old TV show
called Glee that she managed to download on her computer last night
to prepare herself for high school.
Cady
waves her hands as a friendly gesture to Renee.
“Im
such a hypocrite, after she avoided me last year this is how I act,
'friendly.” Cady tells herself.
Renee
notices her and when Cady was finally near her, Renee looks at Cady
from head to toe, then gives a slight smirk.
“Hayden
let's go.” Renee yells at her house hoping Hayden hears it. A few
moments later, he comes out of their house. A 6 foot man, with a well
built body for a 17 year old caucasian teenager, with the most
piercing blue eyes, and honey blonde hair.
“Is
this the boy of my childhood? I didn't realize how grown up he is
now, yet I can still see my childhood friend in his eyes.” Cady
tells herself.
“Uhhhgghhh...
Hi Cady!” He greets her.
“Oh,
Hi Hayden.” she replies.
“How
are you? It's been a long time since we talked.” he tells her.
“I'm
good, yes, its been a while since we talked, how are you as well?”
she asks him.
As
he was about to reply Renee stops him and tell them to hurry up. She
then walks fast towards the City's enormous walls with her big pink
stroller bag, leaving Hayden and Cady to walk by themselves at the
back.
“For
a girl in heels, she sure can run!” Cady tells him. He laughs.
“Sooo...”
he tells her.
“Sooo..?”
Cady replies.
An
awkward silence took place as the two walk towards the gated Walls of
Bravo City. Cady is the type of girl that hates awkward moment. She
was trying to think of topics to say to the guy. It is usually the
same scenario when she is with her dad, but Cady is quite witty and
observes her surroundings and then makes a topic out of something.
She decided to apply the same trick with her dad on Hayden. She
begins to look at her environment.
“Trees?
Street? Walled City?, No thats not right Cady... come on think!”
She tells herself. She then looks at him, and observes that his
wearing a watch.
“Ask
him what time it is, that's a start to break the ice.” she
tells herself.
“Nice
watch... Where did you get it? So what time is it? Are we late?”
she tells Hayden.
“Shoot
too many questions, I need to save on my ammunition next time we
talk.” she tells herself.
He
then looks at his watch and tells Cady that Renee had the right idea
running towards the Walled City Gates.
“Come
on lets go.” he tells her.
She
follows him, even though she didn't really get her answer, “It's
better than another awkward moment”, Cady tells herself.
Cady
and Hayden finally arrive at the 1st gates of Bravo's inner wall. She
notices that the gates are filled with Military Soldiers. On the High
walls of the City, a big tarpaulin is strapped on, it reads “Thank
you for coming to the Walled City of Bravo. Please prepare yourself
for inspection and remember to fill in the forms”.
Cady
then see a few yellow buses in the crowded streets, with teenagers
from all ages lining up towards them. Hayden then tells her that
there would be an inspection that everyone would have to go through
before entering the bus, from eye scans, blood and urine samples.
Very invasive precautions but its usually a random check from time to
time. It is not normal that Hayden accepts these types of security
measures from what Cady knows about him, but since they are just
randoms checks, and not everyday can people go in and out of every
city, Hayden seems alright with it.
Cady
lets Hayden go first to observe him so she would know what to do when
it would be her turn. Today's inspection was simple, just an ordinary
eye inspection. Cady watches one scrub suited man place a device on
Hayden's eyes, it turns green and he was good to go.
The
scrub suited man say “Clear... Next!”.
It
was then Cady's turn and of course the device turned green as well.
As the scrub suited man clears her status and she finishes to fill in
her form, Cady sees Hayden waiting for her.
He
approaches her and asks “How was it?”
Cady
replies “Nothing E.Y.E (pointing at her left eye) can't handle”.
He smiles and leads Cady to one of the buses.
Cady
observes the bus, it's windows on the sides are covered with metal
sheets of all sort. In the front, a huge mean bumper seems to have
been welded in place. Everything there was for the safety of the
passengers, in this case to protect the students from Decay attacks.
As she enters, she sees Renee already seated comfortably with her two
other snotty friends at the front seats of the bus. Cady feels like a
total alien, not knowing where to sit or who to sit with. All of a
sudden Cady hears Hayden's voice asking her to sit beside him at the
back of the bus, with a gentle nod Cady agrees.
As
the two are seated at the back of the bus, waiting for the other
students to enter, Cady asks Hayden why he is not sitting beside his
sister. He informs her that they are not very close for obvious
reasons, cliques at school. He gives her a brief descriptions of
cliques, since the world now are divided into different Military
Cities, so are the cliques at school, They were a miniaturized
representation of the people from different cities.
Hayden
then explains to her:
The
Kids from the City of Alpha usually have the highest status in
school, since their parents are from the Military, they teach the
kids to protect themselves and others from Decays, in short they are
the soldiers of tomorrow.
While
people from their great City of Bravo are the Scientists and Medical
doctors of tomorrow, they know how to patch up severe wounds, and
heal the people with all sorts of diseases. Though the people of
Bravo have not yet discovered the cure of the infection, the city has
developed a lot of medical breakthroughs that put them on the map of
fame. I know one day our people would be the ones to develop the cure
for this mess. This puts the people from Alpha on the edge.
The
people of Charlie are the Inventors and Builders, taking the third
place of popularity. They are the once who put their blood and sweat
to build the many Cities of Military.
The
people from Delta, are the educators, this is why the school was
built at their city, it's intention was to bring camaraderie to all
people and give all students from all the different cities a chance
to specialize on more things besides from what their own city teaches
them.
While
the Echoes are the artists and...
As
Hayden continues his story about the many Cities of Military.
Cady
asks Hayden “...then why has Renee grown apart from you... Us?”
Hayden
did not seem to want to engage in the topic anymore, but he replies
reluctantly, “Because she's a transitioner.”
“What
does that mean?” Cady asks him. He tells her that it means that she
is hoping to transition to Echo City, the artist, the showbiz people.
“It's
not at all important in this world, but she strongly believes that
the beautiful people of Echo City would once again be BIG, like the
ones we see in our TVs, its really not an important class, but the
Alphas just love mixing with the Echo. Making the Echoes just as
popular in school as the Alphas.” Hayden tells her.
“Ahh
does that mean we could consider ourselves transitioner as well...
for Echo I mean.” Cady tell Hayden.
“Really?
You think I'm hot?” Hayden asks her.
“Well...
I know I am, you just seem to bask in my radiance, but in all
seriousness, I think your more of an ALPHA man.” Cady tells him.
They both laugh.
Just
when the conversation with Cady's childhood friend was getting good,
and finally they were catching up, the bus door closes, and the bus
driver speaks through his mic “all aboard”. Cady listens to what
the bus driver has to say.
“Welcome
everyone to the 3rd year of the High School Program,
especially you Freshmen. Now that everyone is seated we would be
going to the 2nd wall of the City. After that, please
observe silence at all times when we travel outside the protection of
the city to avoid Decays. In case of emergency, there is a top latch
in the bus that will allow everyone to access the rooftop of the bus,
up there, there will be emergency bottled water, guns, flairs,
knives, ropes, canned foods, RTEs (Ready to eat meals from
military).” the bus driver tells everyone.
As
the bus driver talks, one of Renee's friends asks him.”I have a
question! has there been any instance where there was an actual bus
accident where we had to perform all emergency precautions?”. Cady
spots Renee whispering something to
a beautiful asian girl, then they look at each other and giggle.
“Why
yes, regretfully.” the driver responds with a sorrowful voice. With
that as the cue, Renee and her friends look at the back of the bus,
hoping that they can see some freshmen cry. A slightly overweight boy
reaches for his inhaler and uses it, while his scrawny asian friend
pats him in the back and whispers to his ear. “Hey man you'll be
alright.”, then a guy from the other side yells out “FAT WHIMP”.
The bus is filled with mean laughters. Cady, Hayden and the Driver
seem to be the only ones not at all pleased with the teasing, as the
overweight boy lowers his head with shame. Renee and her friends look
at the kid, and continuously laughs, then to add insult to injury,
Renee asks the driver, “In those 3 incidents has there been any
casualties?” Renee and her posse laugh, with a quick reaction.
Hayden yells “ SHUT UP Renee!!!”, the bus comes to a complete
silence, then after few seconds the driver says,“Thanks Hayden”.
“Don't
worry boss.” Hayden replies. The bus driver seems to be an
acquaintance of Hayden.
“Wow,
I didn't think that Renee could be such a Biatchhhh, I was her best
friend before high school and she was never like this, sure we had
our heated arguments and we were both just as witty with our insults,
but none like this.” Cady thinks to herself but comes back to
reality when the driver tells them, “We are now leaving the walled
City of Bravo from this point on please refrain from making loud
noises.”.
Cady
then looks at her window, she finally saw what the outside world
looks like, its now basically a barren wasteland with the stench of
rotten flesh everywhere. Cady never had smelled such a smell in her
life, it made her a little dizzy and want to vomit, it's a good thing
that Hayden was by her side, who gave her a surgical mask to cover
the stench a bit. Who knew that even in an air-conditioned bus the
stench would still be powerful.
With
all of Cady's discomfort that she is feeling, she still manages to
look outside the glass windows of the bus, she wants to observe first
hand what the outside world was like Before Decay (B.D.) and how the
epidemic affected the lives of the people. She sees a lot of houses
made from cheap metals, broken infrastructures, the same scenery goes
on for hours. She thought to herself how fortunate she was to be born
is such a safe environment, when in fact just outside the Great Walls
of her home lies the reality of life, she then begins to think, “Does
Renee a have heart? How could she be so awful, when the scenes of
reality pass her by she just listens to her music with her friends”.
A lot of thought went to Cady's mind till she took her meds and
sleeps on Hayden's shoulder.
A
heavy bump startles Cady awake, “ugh... What happened?” Cady asks
Hayden softly, while placing her hand on her forehead.
“Nothing
much, we just ran over a Decay.” replies Hayden.
“That's
3 decays we bumped into in the last 10 minutes man, give me your 5
points food stub out of your pocket.” a teenager sitting in front
Hayden says.
“You're
killing me with your bets dude.” Hayden replies while handing over
his food stub.
Cady
looks around the bus and it seems she was the only one that got to
sleep. On the front of the bus, Cady can see the bus driver seems to
have put the wind shield wiper on, trying to remove some kind of
chunky blood stains away from his view, as she is observing the
menacing scenery of the blood stain, it made her feel like she was in
some kind of twisted horror movie. She knows that this is the reality
of the world now, but Cady has never killed a decay, so the thrill of
being on the road, outside the protection from the wall, was nerve
wrecking and adrenaline pumping excitement at the same time.
Just
then she hears Renee's laughter, “Did you have a nice nap Sleeping
beauty?”, Renee asks Cady chuckling while holding a video recorder.
Cady was ready to give her famous come backs to her dear old friend,
when Hayden interrupts her train of thought and says, “Don't mind
her, you got to have a really tough exterior if you're going to
survive High School, beside Renee is still in training, there are
more better skilled girls just like her where we are going.” he
tells Cady.
Cady
keeps Hayden's advise in mind, and disconnects from the teasing
laughters of Renee and her friends.
She
then asks Hayden “Where are we? Are we there yet? What time is
it?”.
“Almost...
we are right now just moving away from the dead zone.” The black
guy sitting on the seat in front of Hayden replies as he adjusts his
thick green glasses from the bridge of his nose. “Its about 10:30
in the morning.” Hayden replies to Cady.
Cady
looks at the amazing houses and huts all around them, it seems that
the once beautiful infrastructures are now claimed by nature, as
vines other weeds have clung on the old walls of the houses. She
could tell that people from B.D (Before Decay) were quite advanced.
“Hi
I'm Alex, a freshman... I think I saw you in the community kitchen
this morning.”. Alex tells Cady as he extends his hands to shake
hers. Cady blushes with embarrassment, but shakes his hands and says
hi.
“Great!
You guys are now friends.” ,Hayden says.
A
few minutes later the group see the walled City of Delta, it seems
that the walls of the City are very similar to the walls of Bravo.
The only difference is that the Gates of Delta has the words 'DELTA
GATES' engraved on them, with Emerald Green Paint, as to 'BRAVO
GATES' are engraved on their city gates of Bravo with blue sapphire
paint.
As
the Bus approaches the City, the bus driver does not hesitate to put
more pressure on his foot for gas. The students on the bus are now
completely silent to witness as the City's external seems to have
attracted a lot of Decays due to the fact that there have been a lot
of transportation in and out of the City.
“This
never happened before. That big of a horde.” Hayden speaks with a
little concern from the tone of his voice.
“Hold
on kids!!!” the driver yells.
A
few students scream and yell out of excitement and in fear as the bus
bumps 1, 2 then a lot of Decays that are blocking the bus's way.
Heavy noises and strong coil from the impact ripples through the
tough interior of the bus. Cady and all the rest cover their ears as
they hear gun shots, when the Gates of Delta open up for the groups.
As the bus enter the Inner walls of the City, the group observes a
lot of soldiers running towards the gates from behind. They must be
the guardians of the wall. As everything eventually calmed down, the
most terrified person in the bus was the redhead seat mate of Renee.
“Great!
The girl that asked the question 'has there been any instance where
there was an actual bus accident', is actually the biggest sissy in
the bus.” Cady rolls her eyes as she thinks to herself.
“Don't
worry Nicole it's all over now.” Renee says, as she comforts her
friend by gently petting on Nicole's long wavy red hair. The two
girls then hug. Cady thinks their act was quite exaggerating, but
then looks at the whole bus, it seems like some of the bags, pieces
of food have fallen on the floor and a faint smell of vomit emits to
the whole bus. She observes that everyone had the same reaction of
genuine concern from the event that transpired.
“Hey!
You ok Cady?!” Hayden asks Cady with deep concern.
“Yup
I'm Ok, slightly stunned but ok nevertheless, and you guys? Alex?”
Cady asks.
Hayden
replies with a nod, as for Alex he is looking for his glasses that
somehow fell on the floor during the bumpy ride that he didn't really
get to hear what Cady was saying.
All
of a sudden all of them hear a squeal. “Eeeeww... Emmitt the
vomit.” a girl from the other side of the bus dubs the teasing name
to the slightly obese boy.
“I
guess we know now where that F'n stench is coming from.”, her
seatmate adds.
Cady
admits that the vomit is really gross but she felt sorry for the poor
kid.
“Ok
Ok! Kids, settle down, Welcome to the Walled City of Delta.”, the
Driver says through his microphone. He continues, “... with the
fast advancement, the Walled City of Delta seems to be more of a city
of commerce than a city of education nowadays, but don't let that
fool you, as the City is still home to many of the great educators...
They have teamed up with many people from different cities and came
up with many books, ranging from comics to medicine.... This is also
the first City that built its first National Library.”, as he
points to the huge museum like structure on his left.
Cady
looks at is with much amazement, it looks like one of the greek
temples she has seen on the internet. A huge white marbleized statue
of a woman stands proud in front of the entrance of the national
library. Cady asks Hayden who the woman's statue was supposed to be.
He grunts slowly as if he was trying to say her name from the tip of
his tongue.
“That's
Sara Bulan, the current Ambassador of the Walled City of Delta,
founder of the National Library and the co-founder of the School of
Delta.” Alex says adjusting his glasses on the bridge of his nose.
“Yeah,
what he said.”replies Hayden.
During
B.D (Before Decay) only dead people with heroic contributions have
monuments made after them, but now it's been tradition that whom ever
has contributed a great worth from the people, by the people and for
the people gets a monument built after them regardless if they are
dead or alive.
Cady
then notices that the civilians of the city are mostly of local
decent, Filipinos they call them back in the days, they wear proudly
their clothes with all the shades of green. What fascinates Cady the
most were the jade jewelry the women of Delta wear on their necks.
They were thick round rocks shaped like pearls.
Cady
thought to herself, “I know I'm a hopeless romantic but
hopefully the guy of my dreams gives me a gift like those jewelry the
lovely ladies of Delta are wearing”.
The
story of the bus driver continues but no one really cares anymore at
that point. The teenagers were all too busy looking at the City of
Delta. Some were looking at the busy streets, others were looking at
the amazing infrastructures and others were talking about the new
mall that just opened up last saturday night. Hayden notices Cady
staring at her window so curious and innocent at the new world that
it was only minutes away for her to experience.
“So
ugh... Cady”, he hesitantly asks her. “Would you like to go out
with me?... I mean not with me... ughh... with my friends...
technically I'll be there... I mean... your new.”, he continues.
Alex
listens to the conversation and continues it, “What Hayden means to
say is, would you like to hang with us and a couple of other friends
of his to a restaurant after school?.”.
“I
guess so... yes! Sure, I mean, I'm new here so I'd be happy to go out
with you and your friends.” Cady answers.
“Cool!
Meet you after school, around 6:00 pm?”, Hayden replies with
regained confidence back by the tone of his voice.
Cady
smiles at the two boys.
Just
at that moment, Cady's attention draws to the window where Hayden is
leaning against. “I'm here, I'm here, Im finally here.”she
looks at the Huge Campus of the school of Delta.
Cady
is awed by the place, having lived the rest of her life in a place
filled with small suburban houses, laboratories, the park and the
community kitchen. This was something very new for Cady. She looks at
the many details of the School, it has somehow the same architectural
design as the national library did, only that this place is a whole
lot bigger and is painted with the many shades of green.
She
then tells the boys, “Toto, I don't think were in Kansas anymore.”,
quoting her favorite childhood movie with her father, the Wizard of
Oz.
The
boys blank stares at each other not knowing what she was trying to
say, was it a line from a book she read or was it a joke she was
trying to say but failed miserably in executing it. Cady is thrilled
with her first adventure from the walled City of Bravo to the Walled
City of Delta.
